No, there is no coating.the stones are natural. But dust will inevitably adhere to the surface of stones, please rinse before use.

Are they safe for fish?

Yes! Pea gravels are natural and non-toxic, no varnish or other dyes are used. You can be 100% assured that the stones will not harm your fish. But be careful: Prevent your fish from swallowing small-sized stones.
